Team 8-Ball Rules/Format

Double elimination bracket, using BCA league play format; random draw for which team plays which.

Scoring

Each match will consist of 1 game, score will be kept on a modified version of the BCA league format for 4X4 players.  Each player will play all four members of the opposing team one time during the course of a match, for a total of 16 games per match.  The team that wins more games is the winner of that match.  See below for tiebreaker provisions.

Forfeit

If a team is late for its match, they will forfeit one game for every 15 minutes of tardiness.  If the match is being played on two tables, they will forfeit two games for every 15 minutes of tardiness. If the match is being played on three tables, they will forfeit three games for every 15 minutes of tardiness.   If the match is being played on four tables, they will forfeit four games for every 15 minutes of tardiness.

Time-outs

  • Each player gets one coaching time-out per game, limited to one minute.

  • Time-outs must be called by the player, not by anyone else on the team.

  • One coach must be designated; you may not confer with the entire team.

  • There are no bathroom/personal breaks in 8-ball.  There are natural pauses during which you will not be playing, so use those wisely.

Substitutions can be made mid-match but not mid-game. Once a player is taken out, he cannot return in that match.

The Break

  • If the shooter scratches on the break, the incoming player takes ball in hand behind the headstring.

  • If the shooter miscues on the break, and the cue ball goes past the headstring but does not contact the rack, the opponent earns the break.

  • Impeding the cue ball from contacting the rack is a foul, and the opponent earns the break.

  • If the 8-ball is pocketed on the break, it is not a win, but the player acquires bonus points. Per BCA rules, the player has two options: rerack and break again, or spot the 8-ball and proceed.

  • If he scratches while pocketing the 8-ball on the break, no bonus points are accumulated; the incoming shooter has the same options.

Top finishers will be awarded points for their team, toward cumulative team standings.
